The Union Cabinet has approved an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from 01.01.2025. This represents an increase of 3% over the existing rate of 55% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate for price rise.

Government sources indicate that the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be constituted in 2025-2026, following the 10-year cycle of previous pay commissions. The commission will review and revise the pay structure for central government employees.
